Because it is a lifetime commitment the ups and downs are somewhat neutralized.  It is wonderful to get a featured article in a magazine.  Some might think this is all it takes, with money and collectors knocking at the door; but in reality it is just another rung on the ladder of success, adding credibility and notoriety that does help in the necessity of survival in this artistic business.  Without that understanding one could become very disappointed and let the negativity bring you down.  And down is assuredly a part of the art life. Most of my lows are due to my unattained excellence in my art but knowing again this is a marriage and in it for the long haul. It keeps me on track forging through the lows.
